It's a decent sized island between two long ones. Just north of it is a large pond with a huge (minable rock) on the east side of it.

Easily my favorite spot outside the northern highlands. Near the Hand of the Maker is really good for single player. If you're concerned about resource spread, most of the North has high amounts of iron and coal. Directly east of the mounds of the dead has a great deal of resources and the Wights for gossamer. The southern coast of the island in K5 also has horses, and high up in L4 you can find panthers and rhinos. One of my favorite starter locations. Two: Anywhere around the B/C/7/8 area around Sepermaru. Iron all over the place up there, and chests in the city often have steel bars to get started.
